Cabins now available for living and potential membership at Trillium!
Trillium is a wilderness community and retreat center tucked into a vast valley of the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon. From ridgetop to the riverside, we are immersed in pristine nature where we have the opportunity to develop unique skills, share knowledge, or simply enjoy this breathtakingly fertile and rugged landscape.
Over the past 40 years, Trillium has been a multi-faceted community, education & birthing center. This 80-acre property nestled along Birch Creek & the Little Applegate River was acquired by Friends of Trillium LLC in 2017. We are currently pouring heart & soul into bringing this beautiful environment back to life. Our mission is to grow a supportive and resilient community where residents and visitors are inspired to deeply connect with self, others and the natural world. We are a community that values integrity, resourcefulness and a welcoming nature.
“Trillium is a home where individuals collaborate, thrive, and do big work.”
We purchased the property in February 2017 and have been thoroughly engaged in the work of community and stewardship. We are happily at a place in which we are ready to host additional people as both renters and potential members, although accommodations vary. Community assets include a community kitchen, garden, bathhouse, laundry facilities, dome, office/makerspace/movie theater, solar power and an expansive trail system that links up with neighboring BLM trails. Everyone on the land has responsibilities to care for the land and participate in the community, including renters, members, and all guests. Membership is a process that involves living here for a length of time, participating in the community on day-to-day levels, being introduced to the LLC responsibilities and eventually a capital investment upon becoming an LLC member. We have a $10K membership fee per person, plus the cost of the SOI - "sphere of influence" aka your house & personal land. We currently have several SOI’s available, varying in price.
At this time, rough ideas as far as what we are looking for in new members include commitment & desire to be onsite, experience with successful community, design & build skills, and business-savvy. Our long-term goal is to have this land up and running as a retreat center, generating income for the LLC. We are currently prepared to host small camp-outs, personal retreats, and sovereign events.
“Gompa Sol” - perched on a south-facing ridge with spectacular views. This 890 s.f., 2-story cabin needs to be remodeled extensively or rebuilt to be habitable. The site is gently sloped and lends itself to a cabin design that’s nestled into the hillside on the north, and glazed to the south - a perfect setup for a passively heated and cooled structure. Manzanita, oak, and madrone trees makeup the nearby forest. This secluded site is offered for $95,000. At this time there are other cabins available to live in on the property during the construction phase.
“Ridgetop” - nestled in white oak trees along the ridge is a rustic but comfortable 360 s.f., 2-story cabin. This hand-built cabin has a kitchen with a gas stove, lofted bedroom with queen bed and views to the treetops, and a sitting room with magnificent sunrise/sunset views. Offered for $105,000.00
These cabins both have epic locations. While this provides amazing views and privacy, it also lends itself to rustic-living realities of accessibility, water, and power. Access is via a dirt road with limited vehicle access in wet conditions (golf cart ok, car is not). Both are off-grid without water hook-up although there is excellent south-facing solar access for an off-grid array and location is ideal for a rainwater catchment system installation. Well and spring water is available elsewhere on the property to drive up to the cabins in the meantime. With some investment and resourcefulness, you can readily bring these up to your standard of living. Our community is in full support of its members living well.

Living in the Applegate:
Trillium is in a thriving valley filled with creative and capable families, individuals and communities. Our closest neighbors include Full Bloom Community, Rise Up Bakery, By George Creamery, Wolf Gulch Farms and Flying Hammer Productions. Local gatherings are common and well-attended pending the farm & weather season, including harvest festivals, plays (this is theatre country), workshops, story-telling, Battle of the Bands, Interdependence Day, Report Night, Ecstatic Dance, Buncom Day etc…. CSA and locally-raised meat is available, as well as monthly delivery from a local wild-caught salmon fisherman.
Further out you’ll find vast vineyards and wineries ranging from casual to fancy, many kid-friendly. Longsword Vineyard is a particular favorite, located in Ruch approximately 20 minutes away. Also in Ruch is Cantrell Buckley Park, a grocery store, restaurant and bar. Heading towards Grants Pass you’ll find the Applegate Lodge (music shows) and many more wineries, farm stores, and restaurants. Heading in the other direction is the lovely historic town of Jacksonville (30-35 minutes), major shopping & airport Medford (45 minutes) and culturally vital Ashland (45-50 minutes). Jacksonville is home to the Peter Britt Music Festival as well as many restaurants, bars, shopping, and trails. In Ashland, you’ll find the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Southern Oregon University, and Lithia Park. This entire area is filled with farms of all kinds and abundant outdoor activities. It is Oregon, after all.
