Unique Live/Work caregiver opportunity in cohousing

Description

This is a unique live/work opportunity for a warm and positive female caregiver.

A very special 86-year old woman is needing full-time care and companionship after a stroke she had on January 7th. She is active, mentally alert, humorous and kind. But she has lost partial vision and some short-term memory, so needs companionship and help with activities of daily living. She lives in a friendly 23-unit cohousing community in West Seattle with good friends all around, including her son and daughter-in-law. We are looking for someone to live with her and help her with stand-by support and light assists with dressing and showering, meal preparation, housekeeping and laundry, guidance in taking oral medications twice daily, exercises and regular walks around the site, and help coordinating her in-home physical therapy sessions and social visits.

We are looking to find a warm, friendly and fun female housemate for her who can provide companionship, help her with activities of daily living and encourage her growth towards full independence. Her home is a two-story, 3-bedroom house. She sleeps in the downstairs bedroom. The upstairs bedroom and adjacent sitting room and bathroom are available for the caregiver. She cannot be left alone at this point (that may change as she regains abilities lost in the stroke), but family and friends are available to allow the caregiver to have time off during the week (probably two afternoons/evenings, one morning and one full day, but this is flexible to be agreed upon with the caregiver). Compensation includes room and board plus a salary. In addition, the caregiver may have access to her car for support activities and personal use.

We are looking for a person with the right combination of personality and skills, so previous caregiving experience is not necessary, but would be desirable. If you know of anyone who is interested, please have them email a letter of interest to Paul Fischburg at fischburg.paul@gmail.com. In the letter, please let us know about prior experience and qualifications (if any), personal and professional references, interests, thoughts about doing this kind of work and availability.
